Feature Project (Environmental Engineering)

Client:   Taupo District Council
Location:   Taupo, NZ

Taupo District Council dispose of the treated wastewater effluent from the Taupo Wastewater Treatment Plant onto land. Due to the existing scheme reaching its loading capacity and the future loss of a substantial portion of the existing site due to construction of the new Eastern Taupo Arterial road through the existing site, a new site was identified.

Taupo District Council engaged AWT to project manage the consent for the planned 350ha expansion of this land disposal scheme with a total budget of $21m. The initial engagement was to oversee the environmental impact assessment required to obtain resource consent.

“To have this opportunity in the planning stage and be able to see it through to implementation stage is very rewarding and a testament to what AWT are able to offer.”

Further to obtaining the resource consent, AWT was engaged to design the physical works including a transfer pump station, 4.5km rising main, storage ponds and procurement / commissioning of phase 1 of the ultimate 350 ha irrigation scheme.
